OK, I'm a Dork

Sherwin-Williams (yes, the paint place) recently released a browser add-in called Chip It! The add-in allows a user to take a picture that's online and find up to 10 of the colors in the picture.

Presumably, it's meant to be a tool to allow users to find a paint color to match a beloved picture or swatch of fabric. But me being me, I've been using it to find the colors on my favorite album covers!

I don't actually have any current plans to create room themes around any of these albums, though the ease of using this tool may make that a future project!

Jeopardy's Going Indie

I am a religious Jeopardy viewer; I watch it every night I'm able. I've gotten pretty good in most of the categories, though I certainly need to brush us on Shakespeare and opera. I rock modern music categories, though, especially when with ridiculously simpler answers like these:

And they won!

I took the online test a few weeks ago, but have yet to hear back. If they keep asking questions like this, though, I'm golden. Just waiting for the callback...

Digital "Paper" Dolls Are the Thing

I don't know where my recent obsession with paper dolls came from exactly, but ever since I saw the paper doll version of one of my personal style icons, Debbie Harry of Blondie, I can't get enough of the digital version. There are two "paper" doll sources that have especially stood out recently.

Hipster Girl Dress Up, too cool for paper, let me unleash my full hipster. The game lets you dress up your girls in the latest duds that look like they could come straight from Urban Outfitters or Modcloth and comes complete with sleeve and chest tattoos, Ray-Ban-esque glasses and Chucks, of course. My girl is below.

Yeah, I could totally rock this.

The other, called Stardoll, seems to be a Polish site, that offers up just about every female indie, pop and rock singer, as well as qute a few men, for dress-up. Just a quick once over shows as varied artists as Kurt Cobain, Bjork, Leona Lewis and Rihanna, among so many more.

I know you were wondering, so, yes, they even have this guy.

Now go knock yourselves out dressing up goth rock stars!

Project Runway: Hipster Style

I'm a bit lazy/slow lately; this post is about a designer on Project Runway that actually left a few weeks ago, but I had wanted to write about her, so I'll do it anyway!

The designer was Fallene Wells, a self-taught (she was a hair stylist, not a designer, before the show) 29-year Coloradan with a definite hipster (or we could just say quirky) turn to both her personal style and what she put down the runway. Before the show, she claimed to be inspired by Zoe Deschanel, the actress known for her indie vibe and cutesy style (I would call her the poster child of quirkiness, but apparently she hates that).

Unfortunately, despite an actually fairly well-executed show of more "indie" apparel in her pre-show lookbook, her appearance on the show was quite lackluster.

Her first look was pretty good, though I'm sure most people could have lived without the puking clown.

The next week was the "unconventional" challenge (the designers shopped at a pet store). Normally, this should be the stellar week for "indie" or crafty designers. While, I liked the idea of Fallene using plastic aquarium plants for the skirt, it just came out bad.

The next episode was team challenge (she was paired with a designer named Bryce) to design for stilt-walkers (yeah...PR gets all kinds of weird). Unfortunately, her lack of sewing skills hurt the team. She was supposed to make the outfits bodice, but couldn't cut on the bias, so it was completely scrapped. The end result was a boring black tutu with her only contribution being the headpiece (which was actually the only thing any of the judges praised).

The next closest designer to really having a hipster edge to her was Danielle Everine, but she turned out to be just as lackluster and left the next episode. I guess Becky Ross is left, but I really question her aesthetic.

Oh well, next season, I guess!

Hipster cake!!!

I don't normally watch "Ace of Cakes," but I may have to watch this Thursday's episode. To honor the end of Pavement's reunion tour, Duff and the gang decided to make a horse cake with Pavement-inspired artwork. Based on the preliminary pictures, it's sure to be an amazing cake. I can't wait to see the full result. The members of the band will also be appearing in the episode!
