The Raveonettes - 2016 Atomized Last year, The Raveonettes undertook a different kind of music release project. They released one track, each accompanied by a lyric video, once a month throughout the year. They considered the project to be their Anti-Album. Although the project was attempt to subvert the album, all of those tracks are combined for this more formal release. Watch: "Fast Food" Watch: "Choke on Love"

Ray Davies - Americana I recently learned that Davies' last name is pronounced like "Davis". I had always assumed the slightly more interesting sounding "Dave-ees" and was slightly disappointed by the information. Anyways, the former co-frontman for The Kinks embarked on his solo career a little over 20 years ago. Americana is his fifth solo record, and serves as a bit of a love letter to this land on the other side of the pond. Watch: "Americana" Listen: "Poetry"

Shamir - Hope After releasing his well-regarded debut, Ratchet, in 2015, Shamir had expressed some reticence about continuing his career. However, he had a spate of inspiration a few weeks back and wrote, recorded, and released his second album. He released the album himself, with no label support and no prior promotion. New Full-Length Releases

Common - Nobody's Smiling Common took a bit of a break after 2011's The Dreamer/The Believer, Common is back with an amazing follow-up. For this release, he was influenced by the well-reported crime and gun violence issues in his hometown of Chicago, Illinois. Despite being a well-established artist (this is his 10th album), he worked with a number of newer performers on this release, including Big Sean, Jhené Aiko, and Vince Staples. The Raveonettes - Pe'ahi Well, this one was a surprise. Pulling off indie music's version of a Beyoncé, The Raveonettes dropped this album with no promotion and released videos for each of the album's tracks (though, they're all simple lyric videos, nothing fancy like Bey). The album, named for a Hawai'ian surfing spot, came about following the death of Sune Rose Wagner's father; though the band also drew inspiration from other experiences over the past few years. Other New Releases

Bleached - For the Feel EP The band Bleached released their debut album, Ride Your Heart, last year. The title track to this new EP was recorded during the same sessions, but didn't quite work on that release. They're releasing it this year, with a couple of other new tracks, including a cover of the iconic "Poison Ivy," original performed by The Coasters. Watch: "Poison Ivy" Listen: "For the Feel"

Cut Copy - Free Your Mind Deluxe Edition Cut Copy released their fourth album in November of last year. Eight months later, it's getting the reissue treatment, with the inclusion of five additional tracks. Watch: "Meet Me in the House of Love" Watch: "We Are Explorers"

DJ Kitty Cash - Love the Free II Love the Free is a burgeoning series of mix tapes curated by Brooklyn's DJ Kitty Cash. Her second foray includes tracks from SZA, Willow Smith, and Dev Hynes. Listen: SZA - "Moodring" Listen: Wet - "Move Me"

Jamie T - "Don't You Find" Finally! After a five-year hiatus, British rock-rapper Jamie T will be back with a new album at the end of September. Before that, though, he has released the first track and accompanying video for the album; the song is the wistful "Don't You Find." Watch: "Don't You Find"

Cold Cave - Cherish the Light Years

Just found out about this band and already in love! It's like '80s new wave...but much darker. While the band has two shows this week easily accessible, of course, they fall on the worst dates, Thursday here in Cinci (going to see Jessica Lea Mayfield) and Friday in Bloomington (mom's visiting). But, thankfully, they are performing on Nashville, TN on Good Friday with the band below. I have the day off and just found out it's only about four hours away!

The Kills - Blood Pressures

The two-man blues band seems to be a formula that works wonders (see White Stripes, The Black Keys). This duo ups the ante with sexily husky female vocals and a drum machine, in lieu of a drummer...who needs them anyway when they never wear any pants. This is easily one of my top ten favorite bands, I'm excited for another great

The Raveonettes - Raven in the Grave

Scandinavian always seems to work out well, too (see just about every Scandinavian band ever, not ABBA). This Danish band is loud, fuzzy (the sound, not the people) and overall awesome. They're in Cincinnati tomorrow, definitely going!
