ALMA - Have U Seen Her?

This is the debut album from this Finnish singer who started her career on the country's version of Idol, where she finished fifth. She spent the past couple of years working with fellow Nords MØ and Tove Lo, as well as Charli XCX and Miley Cyrus.

The Magnetic Fields - Quickies

This new album from The Magnetic Fields follows 2017's 50 Song Memoir. Their albums usually have some interesting concept to them, and this is no different. As the title suggests, the album is made up of super-short songs, none longer than two minutes 35 seconds.

Moses Sumney - græ

This seems to be the year of releasing albums in pieces. Hayley Williams released half of her debut album several months before the full release, and Moses Sumney has done something similar for his follow up to 2017's Aromanticism. The first half of græ was released February. Now, we get the full release of the beautiful new record.

Perfume Genius - Set My Heart on Fire Immediately

Perfume Genius has steadily released one incredible album after another. His latest may be his best, receiving the highest average ratings for his career. Inspiration for the album came out of Mike Hadreas' 2019 dance collaboration with Kate Wallich.

To introduce their fifth album, Thao & The Get Down Stay Down set the standard for great quarantine music videos. I know that I've mentioned the "Phenom" video before, but it is just such a great show of creativity in our new reality.

Deerhunter - Why Hasn’t Everything Already Disappeared?

Eight albums in and Deerhunter is as good as ever. It's been a minute since the band's last album, 2015's Fading Frontier, though we got an album from one side project (Moses Archuleta's Moon Diagrams released Lifetime of Love in 2017) and an instrumental tour-only cassette from the band. Their record includes production from Cate Le Bon and Ben H. Allen III, who they have worked with previously.

James Blake - Assume Form

At the start of his career, James Blake's sound was more sonic, with his voice serving as an additional instrument, rather than being lyric-driven. That's gradually changed with each album, culminating in this record, which has many references to his relationship with actress Jameela Jamil.

Ronnie Milsap - Ronnie Milsap: The Duets

Ronnie Milsap has been an influential figure in country music for more than half of a century. On his 29th album, he partners up with some contemporaries and some younger artists for a collection of duets. Collaborators on the record include Luke Bryan, Dolly Parton, Kacey Musgraves, and Willie Nelson.

Sharon Van Etten - Remind Me Tomorrow

Across her previous four studio albums, Van Etten's sound has been an often-forlorn folk. On her fifth album, she's changing things up more than a bit. Written while she was pregnant with her child and delving into acting, its lyrics show someone more at ease in life and looking back a bit. It's also a more rock-driven sound, showcasing a different instrumentation than her previous records.

Toro Y Moi - Outer Peace

Following the release of his 2017 album, Boo Boo, Chaz Bear eschewed the standard promotional tour in favor of playing a series of DJ sets. He's influenced by those club sounds for this latest record, his sixth.

Dirty Projectors - Dirty Projectors

While it's been clear that this band was primarily the brain-child of Dave Longstreth, this is the first album on which the group is just him. The most notable departure leading into this record is that of Amber Coffman, who left after a break-up with Longstreth. That break-up informs just about every track on the record. Although Dirty Projectors are down to just one member, this album is far from a solo effort. Old friends like Tyondai Braxton and Solange helped write and record, and a new friend, D∆WN features on a track.

Emel Mathlouthi - Ensen

Emel Mathlouthi is a Tunisian performer who became known in the earlier part of this decade for protest music that came to soundtrack her country's revolution. She is influenced both by artists who inspired her desire to protest (Joan Baez), as well as those who informed her sound (Björk, Massive Attack). She released her debut album, Kelmti Horra in 2012, and continues to speak out on her sophomore record, written with the mistreated people of the world in mind.

Rhiannon Giddens - Freedom Highway

Giddens is a folk singer who got her start with the Carolina Chocolate Drops. She went solo in 2014 with the release of the We Rise EP. Freedom Highway is her sophomore album, which stands in contrast from her debut, 2015's Tomorrow Is My Turn. That album was primarily a covers album, this album is all original songs. Still, she is heavily informed by the past, exploring the history of folk and African-American music traditions.

Thundercat - Drunk

Stephen Bruner is a funk bassist who has worked with a wide array of artists, from Erykah Badu to Mac Millers. He is perhaps most recognized for his work with Flying Lotus and Kendrick Lamar; he won a Grammy for "These Walls" with Lamar. His third solo album features a few of those past collaborators, as well as a couple of unexpected voices; two heroes of his, Kenny Loggins and Michael McDonald.

Vagabon - Infinite Worlds

Vagabon is Laetitia Tamko, a Cameroonian who relocated to New York just in time to start high school. She is heavily influenced by American indie music, with noted similarities to Allison Crutchfield, Jay Som, and Mitski. She is a multi-threat, playing most of the instruments on this record. Her musical talents and strong songwriting have made this one of the most critically-acclaimed debuts of the past few years.
